Who are &Bespoke
Steven Owens is a well-known and highly respected designer with more than 20 years’ experience working in the residential and commercial furniture industry.
Owens joined the powerhouse of UK craft, Benchmark Woodworking in 2001 and in 2004, helped establish Benchmark Furniture where, alongside his own designs, he developed products in collaboration with some of the world’s leading architects and designers from Shin & Tomoko Azumi to Terence Conran.
Owens remained at Benchmark for 16 years before setting up &Bespoke in 2017 with friend and former mentor, Roger Bannister.
With a long-established track record advising on interiors and furnishings for corporate clients over 4 decades Roger Bannister is a widely-respected figure in the UK design industry.
Having studied 3D design at Leeds, Bannister joined The Thomas Saunders Partnership (TTSP) in London where he worked on major commercial projects for international Clients culminating with the relocation of American Express to the first phase of the Broadgate development. During the mid 1980’s the international aspect of this work led to extended periods in both Los Angeles and New York.
After returning to the UK in 1985, Bannister was approached to work with emerging design firm BDG, where he was an associate director until 1988 when he returned to TTSP to head up a new office for the practice.
In 1992, he set up his own eponymous Design Consultancy, creating furniture products for the likes of Steelcase and Gordon Russell Furniture before founding Elderberry Furniture two years later and achieving sustained success designing and manufacturing bespoke furniture for professional practices, office spaces and other commercial environments.
