Studio Development – Phase 1
Before any major building works could begin, 20 years of ‘stuff’ that needed clearing & sorting through. This started back in June last year before any major building works could really get going, and this was no easy task! There was everything from old pieces of office & residential furniture, to Roger’s family memorabilia that had been archived here in the warehouse over the last 20 years.
So with everything cleared out, the building works could actually begin. Some old partitioning on the ground floor was the first to be pulled down, in fact this was in the location where we first thought the stairs would go! We then knocked the block work out between our two front areas (originally known as the garage and packing area) to create what will be our new gallery space. The gallery will showcase a selection of our products including complementary, miscellaneous items such as some beautiful artwork.
Almost simultaneously, work began on constructing our new stair enclosure and mezzanine floor with the installation of some new steels. As you’ll see below it was quite hard to keep Stevo off of them, but they weren’t visible for long which quickly put an end to his fun!!
The mezzanine more than doubles our studio space upstairs, and with 3 extra roof lights the extra space & natural light is going to make for a fantastic working environment. We can’t wait to get back in there! We had to move out back in November as we were slowing down the building works but fingers crossed we’ll be back in by March.
Here are a few more pictures of how things progressed in the early stages, before we moved out!..
Until the next update…
